Hunting Essay

Authors Note: I had this essay from earlier this year, the one that Mr.Johnson asked us to write and now I decided to post it

Hunting

Hunting is a tradition that has been passed down through many, many generations and kept alive by the fact that people need to hunt to survive. Now that is not very true today but hunting is still a huge part of people lives. Even the early humans hunted to live, if they didn’t and just decided to be vegetarians there is no way they could have survived and we most likely wouldn’t be alive. So if you don’t think hunting is important I’m about to change your mind.

You probably think hunting today is very hostile because people shoot animals just for their horns that could be true but definitely not in my family. We do take the horns from the deer we shoot but we use the meat for many different meals it taste better than beef and if you think about it you save a ton on meat. This is because all you have to do is pay about $20 for a license and if you shoot a deer you could have meat for over a year and you would save money on brats, sausage, bacon, steaks and any other foods like that. Of course you could have the meat processed into those things but that is pretty cheap about $150 but again you get enough meat to last over a year. Even if you do that you are still saving money.

Another plus to hunting is it regulates the population of deer and other animals. If there was no hunting the populations would grow rapidly causing loss of vegetation, passing of diseases and more human animal interactions that could turn violent, take wolves for example. Wolves eat deer and with the all the populations growing some of the deer will definitely have disease. If they feast on those deer they will be diseased too, so will the other wolves making them violent and rabid. Along with the growing human and animal population they would end up colliding with the violent wolves and things wouldn’t be pretty.

You probably say that what I said is wrong because you think, “If that is true how could’ve animals survived before humans settled if they are all diseased?” Well the answer is right in the question it was humans. Before the animals had plenty of room to spread out and live freely then when humans came we destroyed a ton of their habitat kind of trapping them in small parts and when they need to spread out they can’t, that’s when bad things happen. Now I’m not saying that we are evil but that is why we need to regulate the animal populations so they can live without being crammed together.

People’s opinions on hunting are very different and I bet almost all of the people that say hunting is bad have never tried it so they shouldn’t be saying anything. I encourage you to at least try hunting if you can, you never know until you try. If you’re not really a gun person and can’t stand the sight of blood it’s probably not for you. Either way I love hunting and there is no way anyone is changing my mind. Now what’s your opinion do you support hunting or not?
